Our bodhrans have a goatskin drum head. They all come with a tipper (the stick you beat it with). As a rule of thumb the larger the drum the louder and deeper the sound (not better!). A woman will generally use a 14", a man an 18". If you are slight of frame go down! It's no fun to play if your arms are aching.
